Enjoying sport and being active is for people of all ages, and we love to provide courses and programmes for older adults across the county of Westmeath.

Thanks to a number of partner groups and community organisations, we are able to deliver a number of activities, initiatives and programmes targeting older adults. 

Community groups, members of local Irish Countrywomen’s Associations and Active Age or retirement groups are some of the people who have enjoyed our varied six-week programmes in the last number of years.

Activator Poles (Indoor and Outdoor)

Activator poles can be delivered indoor and outdoor depending on the group ability and time of year. Activator poles can also be delivered outside using a walking track, astro turf, car park area, pitch etc.

The classes are led by a trained instructor and the indoor programme is delivered to music and can have a mix of walking and seated depending on the level of ability.

Activator Poles is particularly suitable for people with balance concerns or mobility issues. 

Benefits include​ improved stability; reduced impact on hips/knees; develop core strength; improve posture; promotes better gait pattern.

​The poles may be suitable for post/hip knee surgery; Multiple Sclerosis; Parkinson’s Disease; Osteoarthritis and fall prevention.

Easy Keep Fit Classes/ Chair Exercises

A mix of gentle exercises and movements to help with daily tasks in life. Sessions are tailored to suit the groups needs and abilities.

Light weights and resistance bands can be used for some programmes.

Education on the benefits of exercises and all exercises you can continue to do from your own home after the programme.

The classes can be held indoors or outdoors depending on the weather/time of year.
