Community Sports Hubs

Community Sports Hubs are a collection of progressive sports clubs and other local organisations that want to work together to improve the local opportunities to engage in sport & physical activity. The Hubs provide information, support and advice on a wide range of sports and physical activities to make it easier for people in disadvantaged areas to engage in a more active lifestyle.

Community Sports Hubs aim to increase the number of people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities participating in sport and physical activity within their communities. The Community Sports and Physical Activity Hubs project is funded by Sport Ireland through the Dormant Accounts Fund (DAF).

Westmeath Hubs

Currently there are two Sports Hubs in Co. Westmeath; Athlone Community Sports Hub which is based at the Regional Sports Centre in Athlone, and Castletown Geoghegan , which is based at the Community Centre at the GAA Club.

Click the tab on the left hand side/(top of page on mobile) of the page to find out more about each hub.

Both hubs are run by a Co-Ordinator who is supported by Westmeath Sports Partnership in facilitating and proving a wide range of activities and programmes for people in the catchment area.

The hubs’ keys aims are to get more people, more active, more often and to also empower local community leaders to get involved and take ownership of programmes in order to encourage their long-term sustainability .
