Sports’ Disability Awareness Workshop
The aim of this programme is to help students develop an awareness and understanding of disability issues through theoretical and practical experience and to encourage students to apply and promote good practice when interacting with people with disabilities.
The course incorporates the importance of involvement in sport and physical activity for people with disabilities, helps the students understand and become familiar with the barriers to participation in sport and physical activity.
As a result of completing the Sports Disability Awareness Workshop, the Transition Year Students then implement a physical activity programme with a local school. The programme is implemented once a week and will run for the school term.
The programme incorporates a variety of sport and fun activities and is delivered under the supervision of the Sports Inclusion Disability Officer and the Physical Education Teacher.
This programme provides social interaction and integration between the two schools.
Below you can find a range of pictures from a programme which ran in 2022 at Loreto College, Mullingar.
