Would you like to try something different this August? Fancy exploring Westmeath in a whole new way? We’re delighted to announce our first-ever Orienteering MapRun Challenge, and it’s just the ticket for some August adventures.

In case you didn’t know, orienteering is a brilliant way to get out and about, have fun, and really get to know some of the most beautiful and unique areas of County Westmeath. It’s a challenge that’s a bit different, gets the brain working, and the legs moving!

A Challenge For All Ages And Abilities

Orienteering isn’t just about running; it’s about navigating, exploring, and having a good old time in the fresh air so it’s suitable for parents and children. Also, the great thing about this challenge is that you can do it in several locations across the county.

• Dún na Sí Amenity Park Moate
• Athlone Regional Sports Centre
• Burgess Park
• Each spot offers something unique, so you’ll be seeing your local area with new eyes

What Do You Have To Do

All the courses are completely FREE and accessible via the MapRun application. Just download it from your app store ( Google or Apple), set up your profile, and you’re good to go. There is an explainer on how to use MapRun further down this page.

You can choose from test, short, medium, or long, and even accessible routes and you can attempt them as many times as you like, at whatever pace suits you!

Ooh, Prizes!

Ah, now we’re talking! Who doesn’t love a good prize?

There are prizes available for four lucky winners (each prize will include a Westmeath Sports Partnership Goodie Bags with 10 items plus a €50 voucher).

The winner will be selected at random but remember, the more courses completed = more entries = more chances of winning!

To be in with a chance of winning some cracking goodies, simply submit proof (screenshots) of your attempted MapRun courses via the special form which is available here.

You can also find the submission form by scanning the QR code on the poster!

To access your completed courses:

1. Open the MapRun app on your mobile device
2. Tap ‘Show Results’ down the bottom
3. Tap on each result and then take a screenshot of the resulting image
