Lads on the Lake – Athlone

This four-week Lads on the Lake introductory kayaking course will take place at Coosan Point from 7.00 – 9.00pm on Tuesdays July 1, 8, 15, 22.

This course is aimed at males aged 18+ who want to learn kayaking and paddle skills in a relaxed, social and inclusive environment. Participants who complete this course will gain the Canoe Ireland Level 1 in Kayaking Skills certification.

Cost of registration is €50 but participants will be refunded €5 per session attended (**see below)

You do not need to be a strong swimmer to participate in this course but you should feel comfortable in water with a buoyancy aid.

As there will be limited changing facilities, we advise arriving as ready to go as possible. Wetsuits are available to use but if you have your own you can use this. All other safety equipment will also be provided including buoyancy aids, helmets, paddles etc. Please ensure you bring old footwear to wear into the water, a towel, a drink and sun cream if sunny.

Meeting point will be the Car Park at Coosan Point. If there is a location change, you will be notified via the instructor or Westmeath Sports Partnership. Sessions may be postponed if there are adverse weather conditions and if this happens you will be notified, and we will endevour to rearrange.

** Refunded amounts will be distributed via the same method of payment at the conclusion of the programme. These courses have extremely high demand so this is to encourage those who are lucky enough to get a place, to turn up the sessions. If a session is missed for a legitimate reason that is no problem at all, just let us know.
