Following the success of the 2023 Run With Ray event in Mullingar, the popular RTE radio 1 presenter Ray D’Arcy is returning to County Westmeath this May.
As part of his series of 5k events all across Ireland, the Kildare broadcaster will be taking to the track at the Athlone Regional Sports Centre and Old Rail Trail Greenway on May 22 next at 5.30pm.
The event will be one of five 5k runs he is taking part in that week, starting in Tralee on Monday, May 20, at the Town Park. He will then progress to Galway on May 21 to take on a 5k loop of the University of Galway, before arriving in Athlone on Wednesday May 22.
The series concludes with an event at Blackwater Park in Navan on May 23 before wrapping up at Marlay Park in Dublin on May 24.
The course in Athlone consists of two laps of the activity trail and a section of the Greenway run anticlockwise. The start and finish are at the Regional Sports Centre, beside the bike rack.
The former children’s TV presenter previously ran a 5k event in Athlone in 2014, which attracted hundreds of people to run at the campus of the Technological University of the Shannon (then known as Athlone Institute of Technology).
Everyone who takes part in this year’s event will get a special ‘Run With Ray’ t-shirt and registration costs €5.
