‘Media Alert’

‘Active Travel Mullingar makes one local pupil’s dream come true!’

Last Summer saw 5th and 6th class pupils of Gaelscoil complete the four-week cycle safety course with Active Travel Mullingar.

There was huge excitement amongst all the students, especially one student in particular, Naomi Begley, who learned that she would be accompanying her classmates along this adventure.

Naomi, who is a wheelchair user, was thrilled when she learned that her disability would not stop her taking part in this programme.

Through the SIDO, a hand cycle was sourced to facilitate Naomi to actively participate alongside her classmates.

Naomi’s mother explained ‘Active Travel have really being tremendous; they have put in a huge effort with all the pupils, but we were really delighted with all the help they gave Naomi’. She also says ‘Naomi was able to take part in the cycle with all her friends and that’s with thanks to Mary Duignan, the group leader’.

She finished by thanking the work of Active Travel and explained how happy Naomi was when she received the helmet and certificate.

It seems that a love for the sport has really been awakened in the local pupil, and indeed, amongst all of her peers.
