Congratulations

Westmeath Sports Partnership is thrilled to announce we’re allocating a record amount of funding through our 2025 Club Grants Scheme. This marks a significant investment in the growth and development of local sports and physical activity opportunities at all levels and abilities in County Westmeath.

Earlier this year, we invited clubs to apply for grants of up to €500 to boost their initiatives and events available to communities and members. The scheme is aimed at helping clubs and community groups attract new participants, boost engagement and provide essential sports equipment to get more people active. Clubs also had the opportunity to apply for vital startup gear like bibs, cones and training equipment.

Westmeath Sports Partnership is also committed to supporting the development of local talent and upskilling of volunteers, with funding available for coaching and referee courses accredited by Coaching Ireland or a National Governing Body of Sport. This ensures clubs all across County Westmeath have the skilled individuals they need to thrive and progress.

The Process: Ensuring Impact

We want to say a huge thank you to all the clubs who applied as we received dozens of applications by the end of March deadline for the 2025 Club Grants Scheme. Each application then underwent a rigorous review process by our dedicated Club Grants sub-committee. This approach ensured that every successful application met our eligibility criteria and would genuinely contribute to the vibrant sports scene in Co. Westmeath.

After several productive meetings, we’re delighted to confirm that 88 clubs have been approved for funding! A grand total of over €30,000 is now being distributed to support a fantastic range of inclusive and diverse sporting activities right across the county.

Speaking about the funding announcement, Anthony Wheat, Co-Ordinator of the Westmeath Sports Partnership, expressed his delight at the wide range of clubs and groups who submitted applications for the Club Grants Scheme: “We are really happy to be able to provide this level of funding to sports clubs and community groups proving physical activity opportunities right around the county. There is a great passion in the Westmeath Sports Partnership to help and assist people to get active and stay active, we’re very happy to be able to support that through the Club Grants Scheme.

Where Some Of The 2025 Club Grants Scheme Funding Is Going:

Milltown Table Tennis Club- Inclusive Table Tennis Pilot a Success

In September 2023, a local table tennis club launched an 8-week pilot programme for adults from Muiriosa services in Mullingar, funded through a previous Club Grant. Sessions were adapted to individual needs and included warmups, practice, fun games, and social time. The programme boosted skills such as turn-taking, concentration, and hand-eye coordination, with strong engagement throughout. Due to its success, the programme continued in 2024 with returning and new participants. Through successful application under the 2025 Club Grants the club now plans to offer a 10-week block from October 2025, continuing to provide inclusive, enjoyable opportunities for physical activity and personal development.

CRFA SWANS – Supporting Women’s Kick Fit Programme

Club Grant funding will support the purchase of essential equipment—footballs, bibs, cones, and first aid kits. This is particularly important for the newly established Kick Fit programme, a social, non-competitive soccer initiative for women aged 25 and over. The programme encourages physical activity in a fun, inclusive environment, helping participants build confidence, fitness, and friendships through weekly sessions.

Brosna Boxing Club- Investing in Inclusive Boxing Participation

This club grant support will boost participation and make boxing more inclusive, with coaches completing course in physical literacy, wheelchair accessibility, deaf awareness, and women in sport. With new skills and awareness, the clubs aims to welcome a wider range of members. And this investment will help ensure a welcoming, well-equipped environment for all participants, regardless of ability or background.

Rochfortbridge Pitch and Putt Club  -Making Golf More Inclusive for Children with Autism

Following completion of the Autism in Sport course with Active Disability Ireland, our club is working to create more inclusive opportunities for children with autism. We plan to purchase indoor putting mats and junior putters (€30–€50 each), aiming for a minimum of 10 sets. These will be used in our clubhouse and community venues to introduce the sport in a fun, accessible way. With support from Club Grant funding, we can reduce barriers to participation and create a welcoming space where every child has the chance to enjoy and engage with the game.

Mullingar Sub Aqua Club – Upgrading Equipment for Safer, More Accessible Diving

Mullingar Sub Aqua Club is committed to promoting safe, enjoyable underwater exploration. To enhance training and safety for members, the club is seeking Club Grant funding to upgrade ageing equipment, including regulators and buoyancy control devices. This investment will improve the diving experience, support new divers, and increase engagement by offering reliable, modern gear. With growing interest in diving, updated equipment is essential to meet demand and maintain high training standards.
