The June 2025 Westmeath Sports Partnership e-newsletter is packed with exciting opportunities to get active and involved in your community!

This edition highlights:

  • New Cycling Program for Women: Discover “Women on Wheels,” a five-week program starting June 17th, designed for women aged 18+ to learn, gain confidence, or get back into cycling in a supportive environment on the traffic-free Old Rail Trail Greenway.
  • Inclusive Paddleboarding: In partnership with Midlands LGBT+ Project, beginner-friendly Stand Up Paddleboarding sessions for the LGBT+ community (aged 18+) will kick off on June 5th at Lough Ennel.
  • Schools’ Sports Celebrated: Read about recent schools’ activities, including orienteering at Mullingar Town Park with six local schools participating, kayaking with Mullingar Community College and Marist College Athlone, and an indoor Pitch and Putt program at Loreto College, Mullingar.
  • Bike Week 2025 Success: Look back at the highlights of a fantastic Bike Week 2025, which saw many schools, clubs, and groups enjoying cycling.
  • Promote Your Summer Camp: If you’re running a sports summer camp for children and young people, Westmeath Sports Partnership wants to hear from you! They are offering free promotion to help connect families with the perfect summer camp.
  • Free Fitness & Health Testing for Postmenopausal Women: Learn about a free, one-time fitness and health testing day for postmenopausal women in the Midlands, offered as part of a research study by Rita Trentz from Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), Athlone. Sessions are available on various dates in June.
  • Sprocket Rockets Kids Cycling Programme: The Lakeside Wheelers Sprocket Rocket kids cycling program for boys and girls aged 4-12 starts on June 9th in Belvedere House, offering 10 classes to learn cycling basics.
  • Men’s Health Week: From June 9th to 15th, Men’s Health Week, themed “Shoulder to Shoulder – Connecting for Health,” aims to raise awareness of preventable health problems, encourage healthier lifestyle choices, and promote early detection of health difficulties for males. A webinar featuring Bernard Jackman and Michael Darragh Macauley will kick off the week on June 9th.
