As part of International Disability Awareness Day, Athlone Regional Sports Centre in conjunction with Westmeath Sports Partnership hosted the Xcessible Inclusive Leisure Centre Initiative.
Athlone Regional Sports Centre opened up their doors and offered a variety of classes for people with disabilities. The circuit class proved to be the most popular with over 30 people testing their muscular strength. Few took to the pool for Aqua Aerobics while others availed of the public swim following a morning of strenuous exercise.
The aim of this initiative was to heighten the awareness of the benefits of exercise, active healthy lifestyles and participation opportunities for people with disabilities within their local leisure centre. This was successfully achieved through the help of the management and staff of Athlone Regional Sports Centre.
